Lavender

Lavender derives its name from the Latin word 'lavare' meaning 'to wash'.  It's been used for thousands of years for bathing and washing clothes.  This herb is also considered to produce calming, sedating and healing effects as well.  The ancient Egyptians used it for embalming and cosmetics.

There are over 400 varieties of lavender.  There are two main types:  Lavandula angustifolia (English Lavender) and Lavandula x-intermedia (French Lavender).  The English lavender has a sweeter aroma and can be used for cooking and baking.  The French lavender is a hybrid variety which produces more oil and is often used in bath and body products.  We have plants of both varieties at our farm.

If you've never smelled a field of lavender in bloom, it is truly something magical!  The scent of true lavender smells little like the lavender in commercial bath and body products.  These often contain no trace of actual lavender, just manufactured chemicals.  From the moment you step onto our farm, you won't believe your senses.

We invite you to experience our little piece of heaven.  I believe you'll find you won't want to leave!
